Overview.

As a critical friend to an Australian client, Digi2al worked closely with their team to provide strategic advice on the development of their innovative soil moisture sensor.

The Challenge.

The agriculture industry has long relied on soil moisture sensors to improve irrigation management. Our client's new sensor takes this technology to a whole new level, adding the ability to detect subtle chemical changes in the soil, enabling farmers to optimise water usage and improve the health of their crops. Moving from concept to marketable product required a clear and focused roadmap, and that’s where Digi2al were asked to help.

The Solution

Our client’s next-generation sensor, with improved chemical sensitivity, provides real-time insights into the root zone of crops, enhancing irrigation management, improving crop yields, reducing input costs, and increasing profitability. 

We worked hand-in-hand with their team to define a product strategy that balanced technical innovation with the need to ensure consistent quality and value to the customer. Timing is crucial in a competitive market, but rushing to release an unproven product could jeopardise its long-term success. By developing a phased approach, we helped the client prioritise the most critical features of the sensor, focusing on the core intellectual property: the sensor’s ability to process signals in real time, transforming chemical data into electrical signals and eventually into actionable soil readings. 

Additionally, our strategic advice focused on ensuring the client had a robust service mesh in place for the sensor network. When these sensors are connected, they offer comprehensive insights into soil conditions across entire fields, giving farmers a complete view of the health of their crops and helping them adapt their farming practices in real time. We encouraged the client to invest in developing this network, enabling them to differentiate their product in the marketplace by providing deeper, actionable data insights.
