Digi2al's Roo Reynolds recounts his experiences from a week in the Alps.
Digi2al was thrilled to sponsor the Royal Navy Winter Sports Festival in Les Deux Alpes this year, supporting an event that celebrates both athleticism and camaraderie within the Royal Navy.
The Royal Navy Winter Sports programme has two key objectives: to offer all Service personnel the opportunity to engage in winter sports, and to nurture elite athletes competing across a range of disciplines. These include Alpine Ski, Snowboard, Telemark, Nordic, Bobsleigh, Bob-Skeleton and Luge, each with its own competitive teams and representation.
This year’s festival was a resounding success, with an impressive 2,300 hours of lessons delivered to 250 novice skiers and snowboarders. These participants were among the hundreds of sailors and marines who took part in the event, showcasing their dedication and passion for winter sports.
Digi2al was proud to sponsor the beginners' race, where 70 new skiers and 30 new snowboarders competed with only a few days of training under their belts. The sheer resilience and determination displayed by these participants in crossing the finish line was truly inspiring. For the winners, the fun didn’t stop there, as they were met with playful snowball barrages during the prize-giving ceremony. A fitting celebration of their hard-fought efforts.
In addition to the beginners race, the festival featured numerous other events, including telemark, grand slalom, snowboard slopestyle, and more. During the closing ceremony, the teams also revealed their selections for the upcoming Inter-Service Snowsports Championships in February – an exciting preview of what’s next for the RN teams.
Digi2al is proud to have played a part in making this event a success, particularly in providing development opportunities for service personnel. It was an honour to contribute to such a dynamic and inspiring celebration of winter sports.
